Behind the Scenes: Elevating Stitched Edges & Hard Base Development

First of all, we apologize for all these days of silence. During this time, we have been working behind the scenes to bring an even better experience to all of you. With this update, we just want to offer a sneak peek at a few updates coming for the official release of our mousepads, which we hope will take place in September.

Moving forward, we also plan to post more frequent updates so we can share every step of the journey with you, listen to your feedback, and strive to satisfy every single one of you. We apologize once again and hope this update brings a smile to your face, just as it did for us!

At our core, we believe that delivering a truly gaming mousepad requires zero compromises on materials, engineering, or craftsmanship. Over the past few months, our joint team spanning Japan and Italy has been working tirelessly behind the scenes on two major milestones: acquiring dedicated industrial sewing machinery for perfect edge stitching, and selecting the optimal material for our new Hard Base series.

Here is a comprehensive look at where we stand and what lies ahead.

    1. The Challenge of the Stitched Edge

For our upcoming mousepad lineup, we plan to offer three distinct edge finishes: Rounded, Cover, and Stitched. While a stitched edge provides a sharp, durable profile that many competitive gamers prefer, it is also notoriously difficult to execute at high quality.

Unlike apparel or basic textiles, a gaming mousepad is a multi-layered composite of fabric, foam, and specialized rubber base materials. Working with 4-6mm-thick custom layers on standard or home-use sewing equipment created persistent technical roadblocks:

    • Thread tension instability due to varying density across layers.
    • Insufficient feeding power, leading to microscopic unevenness in stitch pitch.
    • Lack of structural consistency across longer production runs.

To produce a product that competes at the absolute peak of the market, hand adjustments alone were not enough. We needed equipment built specifically for heavy, specialized materials.

    Choosing the Path of Certainty

We evaluated two potential routes: sourcing a pre-owned industrial sewing machine for immediate availability, or investing in a current-generation, top-tier industrial machine equipped for heavy-duty textiles.

We chose the top-tier current model. Although it required higher capital expenditure and longer lead times, working directly with the manufacturer allowed us to perform trial stitchings using our exact 6mm mousepad composite.

Recent trial runs confirmed that both of our 4-6mm base formulations can now be sewn cleanly. By converting the machine to an ultra-high-lift specification and making precise physical modifications to the drive mechanism, we achieved a sharp, low-profile stitch that equals or surpasses top-tier industry benchmarks.

    2. Developing the Hard Base: EPDM vs. Silicone

In response to community demand for a firmer, solid operational feel under the mouse sensor, we initiated parallel development of a non-sponge "Hard Base" sheet material.

To maintain strict quality control across both Japanese and Italian testing environments, material hardness is tracked numerically using standardized durometers rather than subjective feedback alone.

    Hard Base Material Evaluation

    EPDM RubberSilicone Sheet
    ✗ Strong odor✓ Odorless
    ✗ High weight✓ Ideal elasticity
    ✗ Surface scratches✓ Clean finish
    ✗ Difficult adhesion✓ Rollable & durable

    Why We Selected Silicone

While both EPDM rubber and high-purity Silicone met our hardness targets, EPDM introduced several unacceptable compromise factors: noticeable odor, heavy mass, surface micro-defects from manufacturing, and adhesive inconsistency.

As a result, we officially selected Silicone as our primary hard base material. It offers optimal elasticity, clean surface consistency, excellent durability, and can be rolled without structural deformation.

    3. What’s Next?

Our new industrial sewing machine is currently undergoing final delivery preparations and will arrive at our facility within a few weeks.

Once installed, we will perform final parameter tuning—adjusting needle speed, thread weight, and presser foot height on full-scale production samples. Concurrently, initial small-batch silicone prototypes will undergo glide performance testing and stitching safety validation.

We appreciate your patience as we build these foundational capabilities. Every investment made today directly translates to the precision, feel, and longevity of the pad on your desk.

Stay tuned for further technical updates and sample reveals!
